Living in God's love
All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 1 John 4:15-16 NLT
The world will not believe if we proclaim that God is love and yet that love is not seen in us. Our Lord Jesus Christ did not simply preach about His love, He had proven it to us by giving His life to us through His death at the cross. This is how we testify to the truth of the gospel: we “live in God.” It is only when we confess Jesus into our lives that He is the Christ, “the Son of God” that He will live in us and we in Him. Our declaration of our faith in Christ should not be mere confessional statement but a commitment to His lordship over our lives. “So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3). When we live by our commitment to His lordship, the more we grow in our knowledge of His love to us. And the more we grow understanding His love, the more we trust Him. John repeats “God is love,” because when we realize the this is the purpose behind His coming in this world, it dispels fear. His love to us guarantees life and life eternal that is why we don’t fear that we will be judged. “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24). His love ensures confidence that motivates us to live like Him. “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6). The more we grow in loving God, the more we understand His working in our lives. The more we understand His working in our lives, the more we trust Him. This is how we grow in intimacy with God’s love, therefore, all the more we become confident to live for Him.
