By Faith, Sarah trusted in the promise

11 By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she considered that the one who had promised was faithful. 12 Therefore, from one man—in fact, from one as good as dead—came offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore. (Hebrews 11:11-12)

Continuing on with relation to Abraham, the author also brought up the fact that Sarah too had faith in God’s promise. We see Abraham have a moment of questioning God’s promise due to both his and Sarah’s ages as seen in Genesis 17:17. God responds back in Genesis 17:19.

17 Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, give birth?” 19 But God said, “No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a permanent covenant for his future offspring.

A year later, Sarah would give birth at the age of ninety while Abraham was one-hundred years old, fulfilling God’s promise to Abraham, as seen in Genesis 21:5-7:

5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears will laugh with me.” 7 She also said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him in his old age.”

From this elderly couple, which is described as, “good as dead,” not mincing any words due to their age, came the offspring “as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore.” Through Abraham’s faith in God’s promised, he moved his family to a land unknown, and through Sarah’s faith, received the “power to conceive offspring.” God is able to accomplish amazing things outside of our own comprehension, as seen in Abraham and Sarah’s lives. Time and time again, God fulfills His promises on His timing.
