A perfect intercessor

This new system was established with a solemn oath. Aaron’s descendants became priests without such an oath, but there was an oath regarding Jesus…There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever. Hebrews 7:20-28 NLT

When we come to the Lord in prayer to intercede first and foremost for our family members then for the church and others, we realized how flawed our prayers for them for our minds are clouded with our own selfish interests. At times, even our sin gets in the way on how we determine what should be the prioritized needs of those whom we are praying for. Our self-centeredness can also affect the way we understand how God will respond to the requests we are bringing to Him. For these reasons, our understanding, our prayers will always be inadequate. But praise God, we have an intercessor who is perfect. “He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven” (Hebrews 7:26-27). The Lord Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, knows no limitations. He will fulfill the oath that was made to those who placed their faith in Him. “God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind” (Hebrews 6:17). “Because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever” (Hebrews 7:24). It was guaranteed that in Christ we have a superior High Priest. It is superior because of its permanence. We will never have anymore another priest and He never change. “Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him” (Hebrews 7:25). The salvation that God offers is complete for He works for it from beginning to the end. Because Christ is involved in saving us, we are assured that we will grow attaining the spiritual maturity that reflects His life in us.
