Walking the straight path
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7
How much do we desire that God will certainly direct our paths? Do we have the commitment to allow God direct our lives? Those whose lives are surrendered to Christ’s lordship should long to have God lead their lives. From the text, King Solomon was not complaining about common sense but he is highlighting the importance of placing our trust in God. We must learn to trust God’s wisdom rather than our own understanding. It is about committing ourselves to honoring God’s divine revelation through His Word. As faithful followers of Christ we must place high regard to what He says in His Word more than our human reasoning. The directions God will provide will always be consistent with His Word. Also, we should acknowledge that God will be true to His promise that He “will show you which path to take.” Sad to say, there are those who miss God’s guidance because they are not willing to seek Him and they do not care to discover His will. Once we realize that God placed us in this world to glorify Him, we will start to think of ways on how we can live our lives following His will. In this way, we will see how God unfolds His plans for our lives. This is what God promised to those who are anxious to live to honor Him with all they have. His path becomes obvious so we will not get “sidetracked...and keep your [our] feet from following evil” (Proverbs 4:27).
