God is faithful

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 When God calls us to do which at times seemed to be impossible, we have to rely on His promise that He will be there to help us. The problem is that there are times that we are not faithful to do what God tells us. Yet despite of this, He remains faithful and stands by His word to fulfill what He has promised, “I have said what I would do, and I will do it” (Isaiah 46:11). The Bible is replete with examples of God carrying through with His commitment to keep His promises to His people. An example is when the Israelites found themselves cornered when they reached the Red Sea and pursuing them are the powerful Egyptian army. Yet, through Moses, God promised that He will be there to keep them safe. “But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm” (Exodus 14:13, 14). From the text, Paul reminded Christians how important that they live this extraordinary life that God gave them. Christianity is not an ascetic kind of life where we grit our teeth as we exert all our efforts hoping that we have done enough to please Him. It is true that living this new life in Christ involves our decision and responsibility to follow Him but it is through His working in us that makes this possible. “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). We are not left on our own. God’s desire is that we will be presented blameless before Him. It does not mean perfection but having the integrity that there will be no reason for others to put an indictment against our Christian living. Do not forget and remain steadfast in your confidence in His presence because you know He is faithful.

The Psalmist is resolved to trust God because he had seen how God worked in his life. “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned” (Psalms 37:25). So no matter how difficult your circumstances are, do not lose hope. There is no record in the Bible that God has been unfaithful to His children. “Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens” (Psalms 89:2). Be obedient to Him, follow His direction for your life and let Him show to you His faithfulness.
