Planted in His Word

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:1-3 It is possible to spend one’s life reading the Bible and yet not be affected by the truths of it. There is a great disconnect if someone claims that he or she reads the Word of God but not be influenced by the truths found in His Word. Once you let the truth of the Word of God gets into your life, it will affect you. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (Hebrews 4:12). This is what the Lord Jesus Christ was asking one day a man who claimed that he knew God’s word. “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” (Luke 10:26). In today’s time, in essence Jesus was telling the man that if he claimed he knew God’s word then he knew the answer to his question about having eternal life. When seeking answers to life’s question, take Jesus advice, “What does the Bible say?” If you start your search for answers to many of life’s questions and problems in God’s word, you will find wisdom to help you face life’s challenges. Don’t just base your decision by consulting current trends, advice of peers, or popular views without ever knowing what God says in His word. Do not let yourself be influenced by those who have nothing to do with God and do not believe in His word. This is the warning the Psalmist from the text obtained from God. Do not let yourself move away from God’s direction by disregarding what He says from His word. Do not be content by just having surface knowledge of the Scripture. Let His word take root in your life and just like what God promised, you will be like a tree “planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.” If you will let the truth of God’s word be the foundation of how you live your life, others will find you as someone where they can get encouragement from. The more you grow in understanding the word of God, the stronger you become in your spiritual life. After Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights, Satan came along and tried to tempt Him to turn the stone into bread. The Jesus told Satan, ““No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

Blessings.
