Christ, Our Great Example
Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham. Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. Hebrews 2:14-18 God promised that He will provide for you so you will not give in to temptation. “And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand” (1 Corinthians 10:13). Your willingness to be under His authority will keep you from the control of sin over your life. His love demonstrated on the cross gave you the assurance that you could be victorious whenever you face temptations. God through the written word already revealed His will so you will always be guided as to how He wants you to live the life He gave you. The Holy Spirit is there to fill and lead you so that you will avoid making harmful decisions. When God saved you, He did not only save you for the future so you could experience eternal life, but He also had set in motion every possibility so you could win over temptations. All these were accomplished through the life of Christ when He came to this world and live like the ones He created in the flesh. The very Son of God took on Himself the same temptations that man could go through and yet without sin. “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin” (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus went through all the possible testings that man could go through so that He could show what victory should look like in the life of every believer. “Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested” (Hebrews 2:18). God in His great love showed He cares when you struggle to live a godly life. He is there to help you and to assure you that He understands what you are going through. “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16).
Blessings.
